In order to unlock certain skins you must complete story mode with certain characters.

Knuckles Skin: Complete story mode with Knuckles.

Metal Sonic Skin: Unlock Metal Sonic.

Shadow Skin: Complete story mode with Shadow.

Silver Skin: Complete story mode with Silver.

Sonic Skin: Complete story mode with Sonic.

Metal Sonic

To unlock Metal Sonic you must beat the game with Sonic, Knuckles, Silver, and Shadow. (In no particular order)

New cups

To unlock new cups (as well as obtain Chaos Emerald cards) for Cup Circuit mode, you have to complete Easy, Medium, and Hard challenges in specific zones in Challenge Mode as follows:

Blue Chaos Cup: Complete all challenges for Death Yard Zone

Cyan Chaos Cup: Complete all challenges for Colosseum Highway Zone

Green Chaos Cup: Complete all challenges for Forest Falls Zone

Grey Chaos Cup: Complete every challenge in the game

Purple Chaos Cup: Complete all challenges for Meteor Base Zone

Red Chaos Cup: Complete all challenges for Sky Park Zone

Yellow Chaos Cup: Complete all challenges for Crystal Mountain Zone

Speed boost at start of race

Hold down when the countdown starts, then when countdown gets to 1 press X and let go both down and X.

Sonic Rivals Unlockable: Secret Forms

1. Chaos Zero - Get every card in the game.

2. Metal Sonic (2nd form) - Complete Metal Sonic's storyline, and get the Metal Madness, Metal Overlord, and Neo Metal Sonic cards.

3. Super Shadow - Unlock all of Shadow's suits, complete his storyline, and beat all of the challenges as Shadow.

4. Super Silver - Unlock all of Silver's suits, complete his storyline, and beat all of the challenges as Silver.

5. Super Sonic - Unlock all of Sonic's suits, complete his storyline, and beat all of the challenges as Sonic.

6. Tikal - Unlock all of Knuckle’s suits, complete his storyline, and beat all of the Colosseum Highway challenges as Knuckles.

Sonic Rivals Unlockable: Metal Sonic

To unlock Metal Sonic, complete Story Mode using any already-unlocked character.
